Mark Biehl, Lead Pastor

What do you do?   My primary responsibilities are in the areas of 1) pulpit preaching/teaching, 2) vision initiation, development and implementation, 3) oversight and leadership development among the pastoral staff and 4) pastoral care of the congregation and community.

What do you love most about your job?  I love the opportunity to serve as a disciple maker for Jesus Christ.  That centers on equipping the generations to minister the Gospel in word and deed.  It is a rush to see God's Word come alive in the lives of men, women and children as it is raised up as the ultimate undeniable source of freedom, authority, wisdom and knowledge.  It is an added benefit to witness other disciple makers carefully identifying and teaching its truths (both simple and difficult) for the personal growth, exhortation and encouragement of the body.  I relish the expectation that our body of disciples will make more disciples of Jesus by ministering His Gospel in our community and our world.

A little bit about your background?  I graduated from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985.  Even before graduation, I realized that God was calling me to shepherd within the local church.  During the 20 years that I practiced veterinary medicine, my calling progressively began to drive my life and eventually eclipsed my vocation.  In 2003 I sold my practice and entered seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School earning a Masters in General Theology.  I completed a two-year Ministry Residency at College Church in Wheaton, IL before accepting the call to pastor at UCC.  I am married to Dianne with three grown children -- two sons (one married) and one married daughter.
