Katelyn Rodman
Basics/Basics Jr. Director
What do you do?
I oversee the Basics program for 3rd to 6th graders on Wednesday nights. I work alongside and amazing team of adults, college students, and high school volunteers.
What do you love most about your job?
The kids! Working with kids you’ll find an earnestness, creativity, and curiosity that is contagious. Upper elementary is a unique time to lay the important spiritual foundation which kids will build upon their entire lives. I love that “aha!” moment when kids begin to think, discover, and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
A little bit about your background:
I grew up in Upland and have attended UCC for most of my life. As an elementary student, I went through the Basics program, and I served in various Basics volunteer roles from junior high through college, where I caught the children’s ministry bug.
In 2013, I graduated from Taylor University with a B.A. in Christian Educational Ministries. I then moved to Lafayette, IN, where I served at Dayton United Methodist Church as their Children’s Minister for 3 years. In 2016, I moved to Iowa City to marry Daniel Rodman. In 2017, we moved back to Upland because Daniel accepted a position as a mathematics professor at Taylor University.
I am more than excited to be the Basics Director and work alongside my mother, Terri Collins, who is the Children’s Director at UCC. It’s a privilege to be able to come back to UCC and serve.
