Kids Hope USA builds life-changing relationships one at a time. One Child. One Hour. One School. One Church.

What is Kids Hope USA?

Kids Hope USA is a national program that equips a church to build a partnership with its neighborhood elementary school. UCC is pleased to partner with Eastbrook South Elementary. Attendees of Upland Community Church (as well as Taylor University students) become mentors to children who would benefit from having a caring and consistent relationship with an adult. When kids feel loved and valued, they are better able to learn, grow, and succeed.

What do mentors and students do together?

Mentors and students (K-5th grade) play games, work on academics, talk, make crafts and read together. The focus of the mentoring hour is to build a positive relationship. During the school day, mentors faithfully meet one on one with the same child for one hour each week.

Ways to Get Involved

All mentors must attend Upland Community Church OR be a Taylor University student and complete an application, “interview,” and training before they begin to mentor. The training involves about one hour of online training through Kids Hope USA as well as an hour of in-person training with Megan Wetzel, Kids Hope Director at Upland Community Church.

Each mentor is paired with a prayer partner that commits to praying for the mentor and student each week.
